Marrakech Atlas desert trip in 8 days

Day 1: Marrakech – Demnate – Azilal – Imelghas
Today is the first day of the “Marrakech Atlas desert trip” Departure towards Demnate we cross to take the road to Azilal. In Tenant, we turn left to join the Ouzoud waterfalls. Walk along the path that leads to the platform to admire the 110-meter-high waterfall that crashes into a chasm. After lunch, departure for Ait M’Hammed and descent to the valley of Ait Bougmez, in the heart of the High Atlas, a stronghold of the tribe of Ait Atta. Arrival in Agouti, the first village of this ancient glacial valley, nicknamed “the happy valley”, framed by mountains of 3000 and 4000 meters altitude. Continue to Tabant, El Had and Imelghas. Dinner and overnight in an inn.

Day 2: Imelghas – Zaouia Ahanesal – The Cathedral – Bin el Ouidane
We leave for the beautiful village of Zaouia Ahanesal by the Tizi n’Islli pass at 2610 meters. Passage to the “Cathedral”, blocks of majestic rocks, and in front of the “house of the French”. Beautiful landscapes all along a very technical track. Continuation to the dam of Bin El Ouidane by crossing the Wadi El Abid before arriving at Ouaouizeght where we will see the monument commemorating the passage of Charles de Foucault in 1883. Dinner and overnight at Hotel Bin el Ouidane.

Day 3: Bin El Ouidane – Imilchil – Todra Gorge
Departure for a day of road and tracks in the heart of the Middle Atlas. By El Had, Ben Cherro, Naour, and the passes of Tizi n’Ifar and Tizi n’Isly we will descend to Imilchil and its two lakes, Tislit (the bride) and Isli (the fiance), the legend says that these two lakes would be born of tears shed by two lovers, from rival tribes who would have refused their marriage.

Every year, a Moussem (festival) perpetuates the memory of the fiancés. This holiday is an opportunity for the Berber girls of the Ait Haddidou tribe to meet their future husbands. lunch will be in Imilchil before continuing to Agoudal, Tamtatouche, and Todra Gorge whose cliffs reach 250 m in height (go for a walk to the high cliff gorges). Dinner and overnight in an inn.

Day 4: Todra – Tamtatouche – M’Semrir – Kelaa M’Gouna
Departure to complete the Todra / Dades loop. We go up the Todra Gorge to reach Tamtatouche and from there, join the Dades Gorge by M’Semrir and the steep track that rises to 2800 meters. Descent of the gorges in a grandiose setting that kasbahs in ruinessituées on the rocky peaks make even more spectacular. We Cross a succession of villages, along the wadi until we arrive at a homestay hostel where we will spend the night (an opportunity to get an idea about the customs and culinary traditions of Berbers).

Day 5: Gorges du Dades – Tizi n’tazazert – N’Kob – Zagora
After breakfast, you will start our “Marrakech Atlas desert trip”  along the valley of figs to the center of Boumalne and take the runway through the collar tizi n’tazazert; Arrival in N’Kob Lunch will be in a local restaurant, continuation to Tansikht to take the track along the Draa Valley and its immensity of date palms, through typical ksour. The left bank of the Draa to Zagora (possibility of an of 1 or 2 hours at the edge of the wadi, dinner, and overnight will be in a hotel in Zagora.

Day 6: Zagora – Tamagroute – M’hamid (night at the bivouac)
Departure in the morning for M’hamid. Stop Tamgroute to visit the Koranic library created in the 17th century where are preserved manuscripts of the Koran illuminated, written on gazelle skin as also books of history and medicine, and also visit the workshops for the manufacture of green pottery and the underground lanes.

We continue our “Marrakech Atlas desert trip” along the track through the palm grove of Ouled Brahim and Elfaija Reg and continue to M’hamid, the last palm grove of the Draa and the start of the sand desert. The camp is located a few miles south of M’Hamid, in the middle of the sand dunes, it is camel riding you will join the bivouac, at the solemn time of the sunset; local welcome, and dinner under the nomad tent at the bivouac.

Day 7: M’hamid – Foum Zguit – Taznakht – Ouarzazate
Departure from M’hamid to Ourazazte Passing by Iriki Lake, the vast surface of groomed and flat sand. Track in a landscape hamada pebbles to FOUM’Z-GUID where will be the lunch … Then take the road to TAZNAKHT to arrive late afternoon in Ouarzazate. The night will be at the hotel.

Day 8: Ouarzazate – Ait ben Haddou – Kasbah Telouate – Marrakech
Departure from Ouarzazate after visiting the Taourirt. We leave for Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah: the UNESCO World Heritage site since 1987 and where many films were shot: The Mummy, Lawrence of Arabia, and Asterix … After the visit to the kasbah, we continue through the valley Ounila to the huge kasbah Pacha Leglaoui.

This Kasbah was built in the nineteenth century and was once a strategic position and was the passage of caravans linking the sub-Saharan regions to the Mediterranean coast (visit of the Kasbah). Then continue on the Tizi N’tichka pass (2260 m altitude) until you arrive in Marrakech at the end of the day. Our “Marrakech Atlas desert trip” service end today.
